All car people and a large number of other people of a certain age know that, but many others certainly wouldn't. But, seriously, what hasn't Ford tried to buy over the years?
OK, so aside from Ferrari, there was also BMW and Rover, so I guess just those three, but still.

That's why you'll see Ford GT license plates similar to this one.

JLR is Jaguar Land Rover, but Land Rover and Rover weren't the same company. Except under BL, but you know what I mean.

Hey Subaru, Ferrari said your mother eats chopsticks and your cars are made of old coke cans! Guess its time to show them with a Flat 12 mid engine LFA competitor...

They tried to buy Austin-Rover back in the late '80s, but the British government wouldn't sell to a foreign company, so they bought Jaguar Cars instead.
They did end up buying the Rover brand name off of BMW later on after it went defunct, but by then, it was just to protect the Land Rover name, not to actually use.

Highly recommend AJ Baime's book "Go Like Hell," which tells the story of the failed purchase and the development of the Ford GT. At one point it was reported that the book would be turned into a movie, but the book is a great read.

If it makes you feel better, I have a true story for you.
One day, two coworkers and I went in one of their trucks to get food. One of the guys, who drives a [non-base model] Corolla, went off on a tangent about how the Chevy Silverado is a horrible truck, that Chevy is a horrible company, yadda yadda yadda. It was really awkward because the truck we were in was a GMC Sierra....
The other worker told him "they are built in the same factory". So apparently that isn't common knowledge either?
